ABOUT ROBIN

Robin Germany first saw a photographic image appear in the developer with her father in the green half bath behind the laundry room.  After earning an undergraduate degree in philosophy, she chose to pursue an advanced degree in photography. She was mesmerized both by the process of photography and by its potential for conveying information in a language more complex and more fundamental than she had ever known. It remains a fascination she is anxious to share through her artwork and through teaching.  For more than twenty years, Germany’s photographs and photo-collages have reflected on the human experience. In this recent work, she has trained her focus on nature as the entry point for an investigation of what makes one human. Germany asks challenging questions about the interdependence of natural and human worlds. Through her photographs, she seeks correspondences and posits an inextricable binding of these two worlds, as if identical blood might run through each. Her works assert the inevitability that while the two are hopelessly interwoven, both are blind to this circumstance.
